Overview

The City of Grass Valley Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the City’s infrastructure and ensuring storm drains, water and sewer systems, street signs and lights, sidewalks and more are always operable and in good condition. Public Works is dedicated to keeping our city streets and parks clean and safe.

They also manage the maintenance of the City’s fleet of vehicles and various building facilities.

Water/Sewer payments can be mailed to: P.O. Box 1320 Suisun City, CA 94585

Payments can also be left in the secure drop box located in the City Hall parking lot at 125 E. Main Street, Grass Valley (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Payments can be made online without setting up an online account via credit/debit card or you can set up an online account where you can view and manage your water/sewer account (set up autopay via credit/debit card, update contact info, etc.)

SB 1383: Recycling Organic Waste

Food waste collection service for businesses and residence in Grass Valley is on the way.

Until announced, keep putting your food waste in your trash, and keep it out of the green waste cart!

California State Laws SB1383 & AB1826 require collection of organic materials such as food scraps, and food-spoiled paper in addition to landscape trimmings. Nevada County currently does not have the infrastructure to support these laws at the scale needed until the transfer station update project is completed.

Streets & Sidewalks

Contact the City’s Public Works Department for information or assistance with anything related to streets & sidewalks including parking permits, sidewalk repairs, snow plow and street sweeper schedules, street lights, and traffic calming (speed bumps, signage, etc.)

Tree Removal Permit

Tree removal permits are required for the following activities:

  1. Removal of trees greater than ten (10) inches in Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) on any private lands;
  2. Removal of significant trees or street trees greater than twenty-four (24) inches DBH on any public lands or within the public right-of-way.

Water & Wastewater Systems

The City of Grass Valley Public Works Department maintains the City’s water and sewer systems as well as the storm drain system. In addition to maintaining these systems, the City is responsible for disclosing information about the drinking water quality via an annual Consumer Confidence Report.
