City Council

Grass Valley City Council encourages community engagement and invites the expression of views and opinions of citizens on any matter of community interest that is within the Council’s authority. Grass Valley City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.

Administration

The Administration Department is comprised of the City Manager, City Clerk and City Attorney. 

Individually and collectively, these individuals strive to provide professional service and assistance to the City Council, City Departments, the media and the public. The City Manager and City Clerk are part of the City’s Management Team along with the other City Department Heads. It is the Administration’s goal to carry out the objectives of the City Council.

Public Meetings – Agendas & Minutes

Members of the public are encouraged to submit public comments via voicemail at (530) 274-4390 and email to public@cityofgrassvalley.com.  Comments will be reviewed and distributed before the meeting if received by 5:00 PM.  Comments received after that will be addressed during the item and/or at the end of the meeting.

Elections

The City of Grass Valley General Municipal Elections are held in November of even-numbered years. Other special elections may be called from time to time by the City Council. City Council Members are elected at large for a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the members of the Council. The Council makes nominations for Mayor from their fellow Council Members and then a vote is taken.  The City Council serves staggered terms, i.e., two or three seats are open each election cycle. Nomination papers to seek office are available from the City Clerk’s office prior to each election.

Public Hearing Notices

Public Hearing Notices are posted at City Hall and generally published in The Union newspaper at least 10 days prior to the meeting. The notice describes the topic of the hearing as well as the date, time and location of the meeting.   

The purpose of a public hearing is to provide an opportunity for any member of the public to provide comments (public testimony) on the noticed item. If you do not wish to speak or are unable to attend the meeting you can submit your comments to: public@cityofgrassvalley.com or mail them to: 125 E Main Street, Grass Valley, CA 95945 prior to the meeting.
