Animal Adoptions

The Animal Control Shelter serves as a safe place for animals who have been relinquished to our care, or who were not claimed during their stray holding period. We always have wonderful pets in need of loving permanent homes.  We never have to euthanize animals for time or space.  We pride ourselves in working with behaviorists, trainers, and specific breed rescues. Our primary goal is safety for our adopters, and our community.

If you are interested in adopting an animal, please visit the shelter and meet the animal that interests you. If you have another dog or have children in your home, we strongly suggest, and we may even require bringing them with you for a proper introduction.  This is  to ensure the animal you are interested in is the right fit for all involved.

If you have questions, we will provide all information available to us regarding the animal.  Often times, if the animal was a stray, we have no information to offer except what we have observed in our care.  If you are interested in adopting an animal you have met, you will need to fill out an Adoption Application.

Available animals can be viewed below or at the shelter during regular business hours. You can locate our Available animals  on our Friends of Grass Valley Animal Shelter facebook page or listed on Petfinder as Grass Valley Animal Control.

All dogs and cats are vaccinated with age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before the animal is adopted and taken home. This is proven to be an effective way to reduce animal overpopulation. The cost of pet spaying and neutering is included in the adoption fee, along with the cost of the other animal health care measures.

Shelter Hours
Tuesday – Saturday 12:00pm – 4:00pm

The shelter will be Closed on the following Holidays:  New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day – July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.  In addition, please call the shelter on Holiday Weekends to check and see how our hours may be affected.

Kittens        $ 60.00
Cats             $ 60.00
Feral Cats   $ 35.00
*Senior Animals are discounted and we also offer a Senior Citizen Discount on Adoptions
