Stations & Training Center

Stations

Overview

Station 1 located at 472 Brighton Street in downtown is home to Engine 1 and the Battalion Chief for the JOA. Station 1 covers the southern half of the Grass Valley City Limits, and parts of Squirrel Creek, McCourtney Rd, Ridge Rd, Rough and Ready Hwy, and Bitney Springs. These areas are all covered by Station 1 through the drop boundary closest resource agreement. This agreement allows the closest resource to respond to calls for service no matter the agency. The Battalion Chief that responds out of this house is responsible for all seven JOA stations and becomes the Incident Commander on all major incidents.

Station 2, located at 213 Sierra College Dr. is home to Engine 2 and Truck 2. Station 2 covers the northern half of the City Limits as well as parts of Ridge Rd, and Nevada City Hwy. These areas are all covered by Station 2 through the drop boundary, closest resource agreement. This agreement allows the closest resource to respond to calls for service no matter the agency. Station 2 is also home to our Training Center and classrooms which are used by many agencies within western Nevada County.

Training Center

Behind station 2, and built in 2009, is the Public Safety Training Center which is used by many agencies within Nevada County for training purposes, by Sierra College for classes, and as a landing zone for helicopters. The training grounds have an underground water pump and reuse system built in to preserve water and allow crews to train year round. The grounds also have vertical ventilation props and live fire props for crews to practice fire ground skills.
