Recycling

Green waste (yard waste) pick up is now available from Waste Management to all City residents! Waste Management picks up the containers on the opposite weeks from the recycling pick up. You no longer have to burn or drive to the transfer station.

Did you know that there are some household hazardous waste items that are accepted at the McCourtney Road Recycling Center ANYTIME? You can bring in used oil (uncontaminated...no water!), oil filters, quart oil containers and other #2 plastic recycling containers used for oil recycling, anti-freeze and antifreeze containers, auto-Batteries (undamaged), lead-acid batteries, aerosol paints, latex and oil based paints (labeled), and paint solvents.

Please recycle computer monitors or televisions at the McCourtney Road Transfer Station. The transfer station and recycling center are open 7 days a week from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. Please contact Waste Management at 274-3090, or the County Department of Transportation and Sanitation Hotline at 265-1768, to learn about other available programs.

Green Waste Disposal

The City and the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County (FSCNC) have provided green waste drop-off days at Condon Park. The collected material is processed and recycled for use in City parks, providing an additional benefit to this already successful program.

For larger vegetation materials, FSCNC provides a chip service for those working together to be fire safe and will chip any brush that is cleared 100 ft. from any permanent structure or 30 ft. from any road / driveway used for evacuation purposes. Note that FSCNC is not able to chip piles of leaves, pine needles, yard clippings or decaying wood. Contact the FSCNC at 470-9193 for more information.
