Dorsey Drive Interchange Project

The Dorsey Drive Interchange Project proposes to improve freeway access by construction of a wider overpass and the addition of on and off ramps. Nevada County Transportation Commission (NCTC) is the lead agency with Caltrans providing engineering and environmental services. NCTC, Caltrans, and City Staff are working together to ensure the project stays within budget, while persevering the project goals.

The Draft Environmental Document is currently scheduled for completion in December 2005. Final Environmental Documentation approval should be completed by July 2006.

Grass Valley Successfully Implements Burn Ban

NOTE: The City banned all open burning on June 14, 2005.

Because of the City's density, open burning was dangerous because of the minimum 10 foot cleared space requirement and the closeness of buildings. It would be easy for a debris fire to become much more and threaten properties. This ban does not apply to fires in warming or cooking devices, such as patio fireplaces or barbecues. Also, smoke is an issue and can create health problems and add to pollutants in the air. An ongoing objective of the City has been to improve air quality.

The city has been a leader in banning the use of burn barrels, a move that has since been followed by the State. Now with the burn ban in place, safety and health issues have been addressed. The Fire Department has been working with the public to educate them about the burn ban and about alternatives to open burning. Thanks to the cooperation between the City of Grass Valley and its citizens, everyone can appreciate cleaner, healthier air.
