Pre-Design Improvements at the
Wastewater Treatment Plant |
|
The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board has issued the City its Waste Discharge Permit for the wastewater treatment plant. This permit governs the discharge of effluent from the treatment plant to Wolf Creek in accordance with the Clean Water Act.
To comply with the new, more stringent, effluent limitations, the City must construct modifications to the treatment plant. These modifications include improvement to the denitrification process and conversion of the chlorine disinfection process to an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection process. These changes will lower the discharge of some constituents to acceptable levels.
Once the needed improvements have been identified, the City will pursue the detailed design of these improvements and when completed the project will be advertised for construction. Construction should occur during 2007 at an estimated cost of $10 million. |
Storm Water Pollution Prevention |
|
|
Richard FitzHugh
Public Works Superintendent |
One of the leading causes of pollution in creeks, rivers, and lakes is storm water runoff from developed areas. Identifying sources of storm water pollution and keeping pollutants from storm drains and ditches is the most economical way to keep storm water clean.
Consider these steps to prevent storm water pollution:
• Don’t dump anything down storm drains.
• Dispose of litter properly.
• Keep storm drains clear of debris, dirt, sand, silt and wastes.
• Prevent dripping and spilling of automotive fluids.
• Wash cars at a car wash.
• Reduce or eliminate use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers for landscaping.
• Recycle leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste.
• Plant or pave areas that are prone to erosion.
• Keep construction debris away from the street, gutter and storm drains.

Vegetation
Hazard Abatement |
|
Spring has brought us beauty and an abundance of vegetation that will quickly turn brown and become a potential for fire. The City has adopted ordinances for abatement of properties causing nuisances and fire hazards. Don’t be a hazard to your neighbors! REMEMBER that vegetation drop off will be conducted at Condon Park, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday July 8th, Saturday, July 16th, Sunday July 24th and Monday, August 1st.
