Green Waste Program & Recycling Efforts


Green waste (yard waste) pick up is now available to all City residents! For a few dollars each month, you can request either a 64 or 96 gallon bin from Waste Management who picks up the containers on the opposite week from the recycling pick up. To sign up call 274-3090. Did you know that there are household hazardous waste items that are accepted at the McCourtney Road Recycling Center ANYTIME? Items allowed are used oil, oil filters and related products, anti-freeze, batteries, paints and solvents. You are limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per load. Also, there is no longer a charge to recycle computer monitors or televisions at the McCourtney Transfer Station. Questions? Call the Recycling Hotline at 265.1768. The transfer station and recycling center are open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Contact Waste Management at 274-3090, or the County Department of Transportation and Sanitation Hotline at 265-1768 to learn about other available programs.


“The Highlands Project”

The City is accepting applications for the 8 affordable housing units in the “Highlands Project” located at Catalpa Lane and East Main Street. The project consists of 39 one-story single family residential units and 8 will be available for purchase by low income individuals or families. Eligibility criteria includes being a first time home buyer, live and work locally and fall within certain income limits. Dorsey Drive Interchange is Needed


To speed up the construction of a freeway interchange at Dorsey Drive, the Council urges area residents to write letters to the governor and other elected officials. The State needs to relinquish nearly $10 million within the next year to keep the project on schedule. It is currently projected to open around 2011.

Does Your Home Need Rehabilitation


Low interest housing rehabilitation loans are available for income eligible households. Work may include roofing, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, siding, windows, doors, insulation, foundation, painting, etc. Grant funds are also available for woodstove replacement and emergency repairs. Work Program for Downtown Strategic Plan


Grass Valley’s Downtown Strategic Plan was created to guide future development and improvements in the downtown area. A three-year implementation program was adopted on April 12th to implement the recommendations in the Plan. Work tasks include street scape, parking, circulation and management/promotional improvements in the downtown. For more information, contact Leslie at 274-4714.

First Time Homebuyer Program


Thinking about buying a home? The City of Grass Valley continues to offer 0% deferred loans to income qualified first time home buyers. You may qualify for up to $50,000 to be used for closing costs and/or down payment. Some requirements are: • Must be pre-approved for a first mortgage • Must meet household income guidelines • Have not owned a home in the past 3 years • Property must be inside the City limits and pass a health and safety inspection For information, contact Beth at 274-4344.
