The official base, or datum plane, of the city from which all official grades shall be established is a horizontal plane 2,411.41 feet located on a brass USGS marker in the west wall of the post office building north of the entry way steps on South Auburn Street, the building being located at the northeast corner of Bank and South Auburn Streets, which point is the official city benchmark for all elevations for all official grades of the city.

    When a grade is given in this code or any ordinance, resolution or resolution of intention, or on a map, grade map, plan, profile, cross-section or specification, it shall mean the distance in feet and decimals of a foot vertically above such base or datum plane. (Prior code § 21-2)
