The Traffic Safety Management Plan (adopted in 1998) mission statement is, "A community policing partnership in enforcing laws, educating and assisting citizens in solving traffic problems and recommending engineering changes that would contribute to a safer community."

One component of the plan is to reduce the number of accidents at high crash intersections. Accidents resulting in injuries occurring at or near major intersections can be attributed to hazardous violations in or near the periphery of these locations. Six intersections have been identified for selective enforcement. These intersections are listed below. Traffic officers and patrol personnel will identify the six target intersections as regular selective enforcement areas. A review of accident and enforcement activity at the targeted intersections will occur on a monthly basis. A review of these locations will occur on a monthly and quarterly basis to determine if increased enforcement efforts have been successful to reduce crashes.

Idaho Maryland Road @ SR 49 on-ramp
Empire overcrossing @ SB 49 off-ramp
Neal Street @ South Auburn Street
Sierra College Drive @ Ridge Road
East Main Street @ Hughes Road
Dorsey Drive @ Sierra College Drive
